A relevant Level 3 (or equivalent) in a beauty or clinical discipline, as VTCT requires for this certificate. Admissions will confirm what you already hold. If you already have unregulated laser CPD, ask about the RPL route rather than repeating the full award.

The 4 VTCT units and what you learn

All four units are mandatory. Practical skills on this course include consulting and reading hair and skin, identifying Fitzpatrick types, planning a course of treatments, setting machine parameters, patch testing, carrying out full treatments and giving aftercare.

Hair-removal work and skin photo-rejuvenation sit side by side on this Certificate. That is the main difference between this full Level 4 Certificate and a smaller Level 4 Award that covers hair reduction alone. You leave with a single regulated qualification that insurers and employers recognise for both treatment families, subject to your own insurance and local licensing.

Client care and communication

• Consult the client and gather relevant medical and lifestyle history before laser or IPL treatment
• Explain treatment aims, risks and aftercare in clear, professional language
• Record consent and treatment plans that support safe, repeatable sessions
• Recognise when to refer or defer treatment based on client presentation

Laser and light treatments for hair removal

• Consult and read hair and skin to judge suitability for laser or IPL hair removal

• Set machine parameters, carry out a patch test and deliver full supervised treatments
• Give aftercare advice that supports recovery and ongoing treatment planning

Laser and light treatments for skin rejuvenation

• Assess skin concerns suitable for photo-rejuvenation with laser or IPL
• Plan rejuvenation sessions alongside hair-removal work where appropriate
• Set parameters for skin treatments and complete supervised practicals on models
• Provide aftercare and advise on sun exposure, downtime and follow-up

Management of health, safety and security in the salon

• Apply controlled-area and laser-safety practices in a working clinic setting
• Manage hygiene, equipment checks and incident readiness during practical days
• Uphold salon security and client confidentiality alongside treatment delivery
• Work within insurance and local licensing expectations for laser and IPL services

This is the VTCT Level 4 certificate in laser and IPL treatments, not a manufacturer device day and not a hair-only award. You are assessed on hair reduction and photo-rejuvenation. Cosmetic College is a VTCT-approved centre for this qualification.

The VTCT Skills Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments (AB40163, QAN 500/9034/3). It is Ofqual-regulated and covers both hair removal and skin photo-rejuvenation.

Yes. You need a relevant Level 3, or equivalent, in a beauty or clinical discipline. Admissions will check what you hold. Medics can enrol. If you have no Level 3 yet, start with our Level 3 Access to Aesthetic Therapies course.

No, you do not need it to enrol on the Level 4 Certificate. Core of Knowledge is an optional online-only qualification (£499.99), better suited to people who will act as a laser safety officer than to laser hair removal therapists. It is not included in the Level 4 course fee.

Yes. Models are supplied by the college for your practical days. You are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Yes. You train in laser and IPL for hair removal and for skin rejuvenation. Both are mandatory units.

No. This is the VTCT Skills Level 4 Certificate in Laser and IPL Treatments (AB40163, QAN 500/9034/3). It is not an NVQ, not a one-day CPD, not the smaller VTCT Award in laser hair reduction only, and not the larger Level 4 Diploma in Permanent Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation.

Offer laser and IPL hair removal and photo-rejuvenation in a salon or clinic, subject to your insurance and local licensing. You can also step up to our Level 5 laser tattoo removal course (£2,220).

If you can evidence laser or IPL experience, ask about our RPL route. Beginners should take the full Certificate.
