VTCT and regulated aesthetics
Recognition of Prior Learning for Aesthetics Qualifications
If you already hold CPD training and have real treatment experience, you may not need to repeat training you have already completed.
Assessment and evidence review still apply, and approval is never guaranteed.

Regulated progression
Experienced practitioners can formalise prior learning through regulated VTCT routes.
Recognition of Prior Learning allows experienced practitioners to have their existing training, case studies, treatment records and professional experience reviewed against the requirements of a regulated qualification.
Where your evidence meets the required standard, you may be able to complete an accelerated route focused on assessment, theory, evidence review and any identified gaps.
This route is suitable for experienced practitioners who want to progress from CPD training into a regulated VTCT qualification without unnecessarily repeating formative practical training they can already evidence.
Upgrade CPD training toward a regulated qualification
CPD can build strong practical skills, but many insurers, employers and progression routes expect a regulated VTCT award. RPL reviews whether your CPD certificates, case studies and clinic experience already meet part of that standard so you can focus on gaps rather than repeat what you have already done.
Experienced practitioner route for VTCT qualifications
This pathway is for practitioners who already treat clients, hold insurance and can document professional practice. It is not aimed at complete beginners who still need supervised foundation training before working toward a regulated qualification.
CPD-trained practitioners
You have built skills through CPD courses and clinic practice and now want a regulated VTCT qualification where your evidence may count.
Medics and clinical professionals
You bring healthcare experience into aesthetics and want clarity on what prior learning may be recognised before Level 4, 5 or 7 progression.
Experienced beauty therapists
You already deliver advanced skin, laser or PMU treatments and want to formalise your route without unnecessary repetition.
Career changers with proof
You are switching into aesthetics with documented training, insurance and treatment history that may support a faster regulated entry point.
Practitioners upgrading awards
You hold partial or older training and need a structured review before committing to the next VTCT level on the ladder.
Clinic owners planning progression
You are deciding which team member or route should be backed next and want evidence-based guidance before booking full programmes.

RPL may be considered across key VTCT skin, laser, PMU and injectable progression routes when your prior learning maps to the relevant learning outcomes. Each level has its own evidence requirements, so admissions will confirm what applies before you commit to training dates or fees.

Fast-track VTCT aesthetics qualifications through RPL
Where evidence is strong enough, RPL may shorten the time spent on repeat formative practical training and move you toward the assessments, theory and portfolio work still required for certification. The route remains formal: outcomes depend on evidence review and are not guaranteed.
Every application follows the same evidence-led structure so you know what happens before you commit to training dates or fees.
Step 01
Tell us which qualification you are targeting
Share the VTCT route you want to pursue and a short summary of your background, regulated qualifications and treatment experience.
Step 02
Submit evidence for formal review
Our admissions team reviews certificates, insurance, treatment records, case studies and any other documents required for that qualification.
Step 03
Receive a written outcome
You receive guidance on what prior learning may be recognised, what training may still be required, and what assessments remain mandatory.
Step 04
Complete remaining requirements
Where gaps remain, you complete the agreed training, assignments, exams or practical assessments before certification can be awarded.

What RPL can and cannot do
RPL can
- Reduce repeat attendance for learning outcomes you already meet
- Help experienced practitioners join the right VTCT level faster
- Recognise relevant prior training where evidence is strong enough
- Clarify remaining training and assessment before you commit
RPL cannot
- Guarantee approval without formal evidence review
- Remove the need to complete mandatory assessments
- Replace regulated qualification requirements outright
- Convert CPD alone into a VTCT award without meeting standards

Common questions
FAQs
Straight answers on CPD, practical attendance, assessments, evidence and approval outcomes.
Can I use CPD training toward a VTCT qualification?
Potentially, yes. If your CPD training and professional experience meet the relevant evidence requirements, you may be able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.
Does RPL mean I do not have to attend practical training?
Possibly. RPL may reduce or remove the need to repeat formative practical training, but only where your evidence demonstrates that you already meet the relevant learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
Will I still need to complete assessments?
Yes. RPL does not remove the need to complete the qualification requirements. You may still need to complete assignments, theory exams, practical assessment, case studies or any additional evidence requested.
What evidence do I need?
This depends on the qualification. Evidence may include CPD certificates, regulated qualification certificates, insurance documents, treatment records, before and after photographs, consultation forms, consent forms and case study logs.
Is RPL guaranteed?
No. RPL is subject to formal evidence review. If the evidence is incomplete, insufficient, outdated or does not meet the required standard, you may need to complete additional training or assessment.
Is there a charge for RPL evidence review?
No. RPL evidence review is provided at no charge. Course tuition, assessment fees and any remaining training or assessment requirements for the qualification itself are priced separately according to the relevant VTCT route.
