You gain the VTCT Skills Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support, AED and Management of Anaphylaxis (FA3A3, QAN 610/5756/3), a regulated first aid qualification. It covers assessing an emergency, adult CPR, using an automated external defibrillator (AED), the recovery position and managing anaphylaxis, in line with Resuscitation Council UK guidelines. Your certificate is valid for 3 years.

No. First Aid at Work is a longer workplace course that also covers wounds, bleeding, burns, fractures and other injuries, and qualifies you as your employer's named first aider. This award focuses on the life-saving skills clinics need most: adult CPR, AED use and managing anaphylaxis. It is the Level 3 first aid award aesthetics training routes ask for, but it does not make you a workplace first aider.

For some routes, yes. Our Level 5 skin certificate requires a regulated Level 3 Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis certificate, and non-medics need it alongside Level 5 to progress to our Level 7 courses. VTCT designed this award to support the entry requirements of its aesthetics qualifications, and it is a vital safety skill for anyone treating clients.

Your tutor observes your practical skills, and you complete a short portfolio of evidence. Current dates are shown on this page.
