The qualification specification does not set formal prerequisite qualifications, but centres must ensure learners have the knowledge, understanding, and ability to enrol and successfully achieve the programme.

This qualification is designed to give learners the core practical and theoretical knowledge required to perform professional body massage treatments.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to:

• carry out thorough client consultations
• identify skin types and general body types
• recognise different types of fat and common postural faults
• understand contraindications and when treatment may need to be adapted or avoided
• select suitable massage mediums such as oils, creams, or powders based on client needs
• perform classical massage movements
• understand mechanical massage and pre-heat treatments
• adapt treatments to meet the specific needs of the client
• develop knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to massage
• strengthen your client care, communication, and professional practice skills

You'll also build the wider treatment awareness needed to work confidently in a real salon, spa, or wellness environment.

The qualification consists of one mandatory unit:

• Provide body massage

To achieve the qualification, learners must successfully complete:

• an external practical examination
• an external theory examination
• a portfolio of evidence
• treatment evidence based on 4 treatments

The qualification is graded Pass, Merit, or Distinction, giving learners a recognised outcome that reflects both practical ability and underpinning knowledge
